Hey Charmers,
First - omg so excited. Tonight Feral is going to be back at the awesome Sidequest Gallery in Oakland for some good old fashioned folkpunk americana with LA's awesome Flip Cassidy. Show is right at 8pm so come and have some fun with us!

THEN! On Sept 17 Feral is going to be the opening band at 50 Mason Social House in SF and again, going on right at 8pm sharp! So come on over, get some drinks with us, raise a glass to my recent birthday and woo.

Lastly - on Sept 20 Feral is going to be rocking our own unique brand of americana in Canada! Does that make it Canadacana? We'll find out at this years FarmFest in Victoria. We'll also be the featured act at Mz Carolyn Mark's Hootenanny at Logan's Pub on Sunday - so put your friendly face on and say howdy.

Summer has officially arrived in Oakland and it is just great. I've so far been spending my time playing out at Jerk Church, hitting the Starry Plough with Vagabondage, and getting Feral ready for some album recording in July. All awesome all around. This month the wife and I are also celebrating 16 years together. Wow. Feels like no time has passed and also like I can't imagine this crazy artsy adventure of a life without her. Here's the recent times in pictures. Next stop playing a fancy old timey carnival wedding in Los Angeles. Woo!

Being the hilarious ride that my life is, Feral next gig is at a badass spoken word event. I LOVE IT WHEN MY WORLDS COLLIDE. Come on out for the beatnik cowboys country showdown.

May 3, 6pm, Stork Club in Oakland! \m/
[event details below]
The social and literary experiment IDENTITY CRISIS, hosted by Paul Corman-Roberts and Youssef Alaoui at the Stork Club, previously held in December 2013, was a blast.

Each participant reads the next in line. The last poet reads the first poet.

No one reads their own work.

The poems, fiction or prose focus on the topic of IDENTITY.

The end result is fascinating.

This show boasts a smash up of rockstar participants:

joel landmine
sarah wisby
sharon coleman
sb stokes
sandra wassilie
a. razor
baruch porras-hernandez

My new americana folk punk project just has it's first couple of shows this weekend! Excited doesn't even begin to cover it. I played my heart out and left it on the stage for the absolutely packed Sidequest Gallery in Oakland, then soaked it some wine and did the same down at the Bear's Hideaway in San Juan Bautista along with those crazy kids Honky Donky and Heartbreaker and Carolyn Mark and Her New Best Friends. What a thrillride. More later but wow.

SXSW - the adventure

The recording of the solo album this last year was awesome. One of the unexpected surprises that it brought was a new band, since the EP which is named Feral inspired the band, we named the new band Feral. Seems fitting and hey if Shovels and Rope can do it, so can I! And because I always seem to team up with musicians to like to just GO FOR IT - Feral decided to go to SXSW, or at least 2/3 of us did. And IT WAS AWESOME. Had an amazing time mostly hitting the various Bloodshot Records events, giving the Emchy sampler CD with stuff from all of the bands to folks, got to meet Nan Warshaw, Robbie Faulks, Rosie Flores, and so many more rad people. Plus Feral wrote EIGHT NEW SONGS! before finally giving in to that need for food and going to get biscuits and gravy. Takeaways? Austin is rad, people are friendly, Texas BBQ really is that good, and I need to stick to whiskey instead of beer (how many times do I need to learn that lesson again?). More pics from the adventure below!
